License

Truetask requires a valid license key to operate beyond the trial period. Licenses are managed from the settings panel.

Need a license?

Visit the Client Portal to start a free trial, purchase a license, or manage existing licenses.

Activating a License

First Activation

After installing Truetask, the license activation screen appears before the login page:

  1. Copy your license key from the email you received or from the Client Portal
  2. Paste it into the license key field
  3. Click Activate

The key is verified locally using a cryptographic signature and then stored on your instance. No internet connection is required after activation.

Updating a License

When you renew or upgrade:

  1. Open Settings → License
  2. Click Update License
  3. Paste the new key
  4. Click Update

Every type includes unlimited users. There are no per-seat fees, ever.

Grace Period

When a trial license expires, a 3-day grace period begins:

  • The application continues to function normally
  • A warning banner appears for administrators
  • After the grace period, the application becomes read-only — data is preserved, but no new tasks, changes, or moves are allowed

Paid licenses (Teams, Pro, Enterprise) are perpetual — they never expire. Only the update window expires, and that only limits access to newer releases. The version you installed continues to work indefinitely.

Removing a License

  1. Open Settings → License
  2. Click Remove
  3. Confirm

Removing a license starts a new 3-day grace period. Your data is never deleted — remove a license without fear, then reactivate with a new key when ready.

Account Binding

Every Truetask installation is permanently bound to the portal account that first activated it. This means:

  • Only licenses issued to the same account can be activated on that installation
  • Licenses from different accounts will be rejected
  • This binding is permanent for the installation

If you need to transfer an installation to a different account, contact [email protected].

Tips

  • Always copy-paste license keys — they're long base64 strings that are error-prone to type
  • Truetask works fully offline after activation — no phone-home, no license server, no internet requirement
  • License details are viewable by anyone in Settings — you don't need admin access just to check the type or expiry
  • Plan for renewal before the update window expires if you want access to new features and security patches
