Truetask is designed to keep your fingers on the keyboard. This page covers the three main ways to move around — the sidebar, the Command Palette, and keyboard shortcuts — plus notifications.

The Sidebar

The left sidebar is your main navigation hub. Toggle it with Q or the button in the top toolbar.

Sections

Section	What it does
Search	Filter the sidebar contents — type to narrow the list
My Tasks	All tasks assigned to you, across every board
Boards	Your board tree, organized into folders
Import	Bring in boards from Trello, Asana, Jira, and more
Settings	Open the site settings (admin-only sections hidden if you don't have access)
Timesheets	View, filter, and export logged time
User menu	Your profile, appearance, and logout

Working with Boards and Folders

• Click a board to open it
• Right-click a board for quick actions: Open, Rename, Archive, Delete
• Right-click a folder to add sub-folders or new boards inside it
• Drag boards between folders to reorganize
• Click the arrow to expand or collapse a folder — the state is remembered

User Menu

Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar for:

Item	Description
Profile	Your identity, security, notifications, shortcuts, and AI preferences
Appearance	Choose a color theme (Default, Ocean)
Light / Dark / System	Change the interface brightness
Logout	End your session

The Command Palette

Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) to open the Command Palette — the fastest way to jump anywhere in the app.

What you can do

Type	Result
Board name	Navigate to that board
Card title (2+ characters)	Search tasks across all boards
Settings section (e.g. "smtp")	Jump straight to that settings pane
Action name (e.g. "toggle sidebar")	Run the action

TIP

Boards and favorites filter instantly as you type. Card search is debounced and hits the server, so results appear a moment later.

Notifications

Click the bell icon in the top toolbar to open the notifications panel.

You'll receive notifications when:

• Someone assigns you to a task or unassigns you
• Someone mentions you with @yourname in a description or comment
• A task you watch gets a new comment, attachment, or update
• A task is overdue, due soon, or upcoming
• Your timer auto-stops after 8 hours of inactivity
• You're invited to a board

Controls

• Filter tabs — narrow by All, Comments, Assignments, Mentions, Due Dates, or System
• Click a notification to jump directly to the task
• Mark all read or dismiss all with the header buttons

Rebinding Shortcuts

Open Profile → Shortcuts to customize any of them. Modifier keys are cross-platform aware:

• cmd — Cmd on Mac, Ctrl elsewhere
• alt — Alt / Option
• shift — Shift
• ctrl — always Ctrl, regardless of platform
